Macbook Air 2020 I7: Review

product review examples

The new macbook air 2020 i7 is the first Mac laptop to offer options for quad-core processors and 16GB of RAM without a big price hike. After years of having sub-par specs, the MacBook Air finally gets a refresh.

The MacBook Air's tenth-generation Intel Core i5/i7 processors has a 20% average speed increase, which makes them more efficient than the base model from last year. These improvements are due to a higher clock speed, more threads and a higher boost frequency.

Although this boost is helpful for CPU-intensive tasks, such as video editing, it also means that the i5 is slightly slower in terms of performance when compared to models with the same price, like the Dell XPS 13. This will not be an issue for most users. However most people won’t notice the difference if their MacBook Airs are used only for short, singlecore tasks.

Battery Life

Because of its long-lasting battery, the MacBook Air is one among the most versatile laptops for work from home. Apple claims that the MacBook Air will be able to run for up to 11 hours web activity and 12 hours video playback. In our tests, we found that this wasn't quite right, but it's still better than a lot of other Windows machines at the same price point.

Display

Although the Apple display on the MacBook Air does not have the same P3-wide color support as the Macbook Pro's, it is adequate enough for daily use. Although it has a lower brightness than the MacBook Pro's (400 Nits vs.500 Nits), the display is bright enough for most situations.

Keyboard

The MacBook Air's Magic Keyboard, which is an improvement over the butterfly keyboard last year, has more room for typing and allows you to reconfigure keys or arrows. There are still a few oddities with the keyboard, but the new setup is a big step up from the clunky arrow keys on the older Airs.

Despite that, the Air's keyboard is still a little cramped when compared to larger MacBook Pros, and some reconfigured arrow keys still need a bit of practice to get used to. The keyboard on the Air is far more comfortable than other Mac laptops, and it's an excellent choice for anyone looking for a portable, lightweight computer that doesn't cost too much.

Powerup

The macbook air 2020 i7 has the latest version MacOS. It's called Catalina. This is a vast improvement over the iTunes-based OS X found on all Apple laptops in 2018. It's easier to use macOS applications and iTunes is no longer a sidebar. It also means Apple can now combine its music, podcasts, TV services, and other content into one app. This is a great idea.

2020 MacBook Air features an i7 processor with a base frequency of 1.1 GHz. It can boost to 3.5 GHz if needed, but it can also drop to 1.33 GHz if not necessary. It's paired up with 8GB of RAM as well as a 512GB, PCIe-based SSD. This should be enough to meet most peoples' needs.
